Infertility is defined as a couple being unable to conceive after having unprotected sex for one year. Women who are unable to carry a pregnancy full term may also have infertility.

Infertility affects approximately 12% of women aged 15–44. Often times in couples with infertility issues it is both the male and the female that have fertility issues

Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves the insertion of very small, thin needles into specific points on the body. The Chinese believed that to remain healthy, energy should flow in a balanced way throughout your body. Whenever there is a blockage in the flow of that energy, inflammations will occur leading to severe pains and several types of diseases. Since energy flows the meridian points, so acupuncture inserts needles in different parts of the body to make energy flow smoothly. Placing needles on certain points unblocks the energy points. This reduces the particular type of disease.

Acupuncture works for infertility by increasing the production of endorphins or brain chemicals that help to reduce stress. It also improves blood supply to the ovaries, and the uterus. This makes it easier for the uterus to nourish a fetus and reduce the risk of miscarriage effectively. Acupuncture also stimulates the central nervous systems causing neurotransmitters and neurohormones to be released. Finally, acupuncture relieves stress, which can also be a roadblock to conceiving.
